Rice Revolution

Several months ago I came up with an idea called “The Rice Revolution.” The concept is simple: For 7 days participants limit themselves to eating only rice. Of course, there are those in the world for whom regular meals of only rice would be a practical feast. They also would collect pledges for each day they participate.

As I envision it, most participants would do a 7-day Revolution, but for various reasons participants would also be invited to participate in a 1-day option. (I hope that, after a few trial runs, I might be able to add a 30-day option.)

If my math works out correctly, you and 10 sponsors each pledging $2/day can provide sustenance for a child for 2 1/2 months for every day you participate!

All funds raised would go directly to an organization called Feed the Children. If you’re unfamiliar with them, they’re awesome. Charity Navigator ranks them as a 4 star charity!

The Revolution’s website is: http://www.ricerevolution.org/ (although it’s practically nothing yet).

Interested? Let me know. I hope to run the first Revolution this fall and would love to have you (and your church?!) participate!

Grace and Peace,
`tim

I’m in, as is my consistory. Let me know when you figure out the details.

By the way, I made reference to the Rice Revolution today on my blog, so maybe you’ll be getting more traffic.

I’m in, and I’ll ask my congregation if they’ll participate as well. Great idea.
