Advent is Here

Believe it or not, outside of Lent, Advent may be my favorite season of the year. (Yes, I do love lent, but that’s a different post….)

It actually has nothing to do with the fact that, for most people, Advent is simply a time of preparation for Christmas - indeed that’s not it at all. Rather, it’s because Advent - is a special time of preparation for Christ’s return. Yep, this year (like the past several) I will do everything in my ministerial power to get our congregation to think outside of the pre-Christmas “box” that Advent is usually swallowed up by.

These are some of the words we’ll be using for our advent celebrations this year (adapted from the Book of Blessings). Maybe you, too, can join us…

Leader: Christ came to bring us salvation and has promised to come again. Let us pray that we may be always
ready to welcome him:
People: Come, Lord Jesus.
Leader: That the keeping of Advent may open our hearts to God’s love, we pray to the Lord:
People: Come, Lord Jesus.
Leader: That the light of Christ may penetrate the darkness of sin, we pray to the Lord:
People: Come, Lord Jesus.
Leader: That this wreath may constantly remind us to prepare for the coming of Christ, we pray to the Lord:
People: Come, Lord Jesus.
Leader: That the Christmas season may fill us with peace, love, joy and hope, we pray to the Lord:
People: Come, Lord Jesus.

The day is coming, and soon will be here…. Let us all pray in eager anticipation: Maranatha!

Grace and Peace,
`tim
