We’re sooo much more important
Author: teejtc / Category: ReligiousI hate to sound uncaring, but I’ve found myself - over the past months - considering the valuation of life.
Specifically, I found myself noting that “our” lives are immensely more important than “theirs” are. MSN made this abundantly clear today. With a moving picture it noted the deaths of about a dozen miners in West Virginia - a horrifying event. In teh same spot, it announced the Rose Bowl and 11 tasty foods that can help you loose weight.
Down further on the page, in much smaller print it noted that 32 Iraqi’s were killed by a suicide bomber and over 100 killed in Indonesia by a landslide.
“They,” however didn’t manage headlines or pictures on the front page. 11 tasty, weight-loss foods did…not “them.”
My heart goes out to the families of the lost miners. The situation was horrible and the media intensely unhelpful. My heart also goes out to the families of Iraqi’s (gathered, incidently, for a funeral) and Indonesians…. I suppose MSN figured their stories weren’t money-makers….
Grace and Peace,
`tim
