Naughty McDonald’s
As if there weren’t enough reasons to drive by the drive-through. It is now official. I am no longer eating at McDonald’s - at least until their current “Dad’s Cooking” campaign is finished. (Of course, I vowed not to eat at Taco Bell after a bought of food poisoning and haven’t been back in about 12 years.)
The campaign is simple and feeds into all the typical stereotypes. Kids are running to their friends?/Siblings? and announcing (in a variety of languages - since McDonald’s is so inter-cultural) that Dad is cooking. Message? Dad can’t cook. He’s an absent father. If he’s responsible for dinner, it means McDonald’s.
Besides being offensive - it’s ironic. McDonald’s is feeding into the belief that they’re a 2nd-choice… a last resort… food for those who cannot make real meals (like moms).
Call it selfish, I understand. I should have stopped eating at McDonald’s long ago when I first began learning how they treat their employees, etc. In any case. Better late than never, right?
Grace and Peace,
`tim
