Post Number One!

Biking (with pedals!), Ragbrai March 19th, 2007

Thirteen days left! In less than two weeks we’ll find out whether or not we’ve made it through the selection process. (If selected, the ride will take place in 124 days.)

“Selection process?” you ask, “Why would there be a selection process for a bike ride across Iowa?” Ahh… glad you asked. There’s a selection process because so many people want to do it! Only 8,500 week-long riders plus another 1,500 daily riders are allowed in. (Yep… that’s an “only” - hundreds more try to get in, but don’t make it.) As for selection criteria, who knows. A computer gets all the names and spits out the ones who make it in. That happens on April 1, 2007.

RAGBRAI is a week-long bike ride across Iowa. This year’s ride is the 35th annual, and it’s 477 miles long, touted as being the flattest Ragbrai ever (I like that!) The name breaks down to the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (R… A… G… B… R… A… I… - The “Register” is the Des Moines Register, a newspaper.)

So, do you think I can make it? check back often, maybe I’ll let you know how I’m training and what I’m doing to prepare.

See you soon.
