Assessments & the Church Herald
The good doctor (in the comments on my post “Synod is Over“) pointed out that I said nothing about the way synod acted regarding the Church Herald. To make a long story short, they decided to stop assessing for the Church Herald, which means that the RCA will no longer have every-household delivery.
I’ve made further comments on the Church Herald issue and given numbers for 2008 assessments in my response. You can read it here.

My problem with the CH vote was not in de-assessing the CH, but in how the money was swiped by the GSC. The every-household program was created by a DEDICATED assessment for the CH (not for communications; history doesn’t change no matter how many times people say it did). Simply sliding it over into “Our Call” funding was dishonest, lazy, and beneath a Synod that did what this one did on Monday.
Not that I have an opinion or anything.

James…
You have an opinion?
Never wudda guessed it…
Actually, if you read my latest post, you’ll see that the problem you mentioned was immediately recognized by some of the members of my congregation. I’m certainly not a “business-model” minister, but I don’t have an answer to the question of: How can they do that in the church if we can’t do that in the business world?
It was good seeing you at synod. Greet you wife and son for me.
