Been a few days…

Well, it’s been a few days, but I finally got a spot at the internet truck and thought I’d check in. Here’s what’s happened…

  • Wednesday was a GREAT day. It went well. Spent the night in Cedar Falls and attended a Blues Traveler concert in the UniDome. The concert wasn’t good at all, the mix was off and the acoustics int he dome are aweful. It was the first time I’ve seen the dome since it caved in a couple of years ago and they replaced 2/3 of it with metal. It’s a really nice facility. Camping in Cedar Falls was great. It was loud (there were concerts into the wee hours of the morning) but there was a nice breeze, the air cooled off early, and the ground was nice and grassy.
  • Thursday went fine, but I started out REALLY sore. That went away in the first 15 miles or so and the rest of the day went well. We started getting our way into hilly country — but it was also Amish country. I stopped at a country Amish bakery and had an INCREDIBLE peach pie (with homemade crust!) ala mode (so-called “homemade” icecream, which, in Ragbrai means that it’s churned with an old John Deer engine.) The big news Thursday was that while were were half-way home from down-town it started to rain (and I had the rain flap OFF of my tent.) By the time we got back to the campground I had 1/4-1/2 inch of rain in the bottom of my tent. UGH! I got most of the “water” out but spent the night in a damp and wet tent with damp and wet everything around me (fortunately it was just thunderstorms though and they didn’t evacute us to a gym or anythign like that.) The good news is that it’s cooled off some (although REALLY humid).
  • We’re 26 miles (about 1/3 of the way) into Friday’s ride right now. It’s been a long 26 miles. Today and tomorrow are a lot of hills and it’s misty/rainy/drippy/hot/humid… (on top of putting on wet clothes this morning) :-) There’s been a head wind all morning, but I think that’ll drop off in another 10 miles or so when we turn. We’re about off to eat breakfast. In any case, it’s going well.

There’s a line for the computers — it’s going well though. Have a great day.

Grace and Peace,

`tim
