Nothin’ like jumping from point A to…well… point D (skipping everythign in between)
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Catholic position on birth control (not a problem since I have no ecclesiastical loyalties to the Vatican) but this seems like a little bit extreme:
Catholic Bishops Agree to Allow Plan B for Rape Victims
I’m all for birth control (whenever people ask whether we’re going to have another child I respond “There are ways of preventing that!”) but to jump all the way over to allowing Plan B… Wow!
To be fair, I don’t know what to think. Of course I think there ought to be some sort of recourse to victims of such a horrifying crime, but how can the Bishops hold to a belief that is essentially “birth control is universally wrong” and “Plan B is abortion” while somehow saying “Plan B is ok in the case of rape”?
I’ll admit, I’m conflicted about Plan B anyhow. This just seems like an extreme change arising out of the desire to sidestep political pressure.
Dear Benedict isn’t going to like this….
Grace and Peace,
`tim
