Hopefully?!

Religious December 4th, 2007

The past week has been incredibly busy. Sunday was… (1) the first Sunday of Advent, (2) a communion Sunday, and (3) our annual congregational meeting (which we held, for the first time, on a Sunday hoping to get better participation - which it did!) On top of that, I’ve been frantically working on my thesis proposal for submission TOMORROW (Wednesday).

E-mail is amazing. I have had the kind of communication with my advisor that, in the past, would have taken months.

Anyhow, to make a long story short. Advent is started. Communion was celebrated (although I biffed part of the liturgy… I HATE THAT!). The congregational meeting was held (electing two new people to office… one of whom has now backed out and I have to schedule a new meeting to refill) :-( And…. My thesis proposal is submitted!

I know enough to understand that doctoral committees often reject the first proposal and require changes. I know that it would be perfectly normal if it wasn’t accepted… but I’m sure hoping. My understanding is that there are three options: Complete acceptance (which almost never happens), provisional acceptance (which CAN happen and requires changes but allows me to begin the project), and rejection (not at all uncommon). So I’m preparing myself for the third… hoping for the second… praying (although barely able to admit it) for the first.

Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated!

Also, let me gripe for a second, there’s now a seventh edition of “A Manual for Writers” by Kate Turabian… which probably means I need to buy it. ugh.

If you’re wondering about the Labyrinth, it’s almost half finished. I’m 5 rows short. I had hoped to work on it last night, but didn’t have the time. Maybe tonight a little after consistory.

A blessed Advent to you and yours…

Grace and Peace,

`tim

Your labyrinth is really awesome. I know you don’t need any more projects to do, but if you get around to it, you should write up the pattern and send it to knitty.com .

Is it a blanket or a pillow or shawl or something?

Thanks… Right now it’s an amorphous “wall hanging.” :-) We’ll have to see what happens. It might make a nice pillow, but this wool is a tad rough for that.

I’ve thought about submitting it for publication - we’ll have to see. That’s a lot of work (which I’d like to do, but don’t know if I really have the time for.)

Regarding citations, things have gotten a lot easier since our seminary days…take a look at www.bibme.org or this bit from Lifehacker about using Word http://lifehacker.com/software/how-to/create-citations-and-bibliographies-using-word-2007-315000.php.
