Happy New Year (and Hat Finished!)

Good morning and a happy new year to one and all — may it be a year of joy and blessing for each of you and those you love.

As we’re watching the Rose Bowl Parade, I finished the “Koolhaas hat” for Emily (our babysitter and our church’s bulletin secretary) — I’m really happy with it (now, to make one for JJ!)

It turned out great! What yarn did you use?

Hope you and yours have a wonderful 2008.

I used Nashua Handknits Creative Focus Superwash (Black, Color 30). It comes in a 100 g (3.5 oz) skein at 218 yards (200 meters).

It’s not the softest wool in the world but it’s not terribly expensive and since it’s for a gift I wanted to make sure it could take being thrown in a washing machine.

I used bamboo, double pointed needles the whole way through instead of circulars and found that it worked well (I’m actually a fan of using dpns rather than circulars whenever I can).

Do you have the pattern for this hat someplace on your blog?

  4. teejtc says:

I don’t have the pattern, but you can read about it on the designer’s website (http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com) or purchase it as a stand-alone pattern at: http://shop.interweave.com/store/Koolhaas-Hat-P211C54.aspx ($4.50)

You can also get it where I did – out of the Interweave Knits “Holiday Gifts” edition which may not be in stores any more, and they were out of it online, last I checked, but you could keep an eye up here and see if they release a new printing of it. (I got mine at Barnes and Noble – your local bookstore might still have a copy floating around?!)

Hope you’re well, Kathy… Looking forward to seeing you in February!

Thanks Tim — I found the hat pattern and bought it. What a great website that is. Seriously, with the web, one really doesn’t have to go pattern shopping in a STORE at all. . .

Apropos of absolutely nothing, a friend pointed this site out to me the other night because of the name, but it has content that I thought you might find interesting.

Mel… Thanks for the link – it’s an interesting one… Kathy — if you’re still reading these comments, you’d like it too!
