Isn’t the Internet a Funny Thing?

Knitting & Tatting June 13th, 2008

I have two friends who live half a country away from me.  I think I’ve met one of them in person once, and that was several years ago.  Other than that, our entire relationship is online.  We read each others’ blogs; we communicate occasionally via e-mail.  We’ve even talked on the phone a couple of times.  And yet, when I heard they were having a baby, it never even crossed my mind not to make them something to celebrate.
It’s another BSJ (Baby Surprise Jacket) — I absolutely love this little pattern:

I bought the yarn on Knitpicks.com, it’s the Swish (again) - 100% wool, but incredibly soft and machine washable - love it!  Unfortunately neither of the colors were quite what I was expecting — they’re actually a bit darker than the picture makes them out to be.  Fortunately, the tiny brown hints in the gray and the suggestion of burgundy in the blue actually come together really well.

I won’t post their names here, to protect their anonymity; and I suppose I’m kind-of giving away the surprise here (I was going to have to do that anyhow, I don’t have their “snail-mail” address),  But I like the way this one turned out better than the last two I made and wanted to share it.  Maybe it’s because I like darker colors better than pink.  Either way, Congratulations to the parents-to-be.  May these last weeks be gentle, the birth without incident, and the baby healthy….

Grace and Peace,

`tim

Hi, Tim. Funny thing, I discovered when I visited the happy family a few days after the baby was born, that you and I both knitted a BSJ for the baby! (I suspected when I read this post that both our sweaters were headed for the same address) But don’t worry, yours and mine turned out very different, yours is smaller so can be used first, and then when he grows out of it he can move into mine :)
