Let me officially stand corrected. I said that The Rev. Dr. James Seawood will be the first African-American (vice)president of the Reformed Church in America. I was wrong. The first African-American President in the RCA was the Rev. Wilbur Washington, who was elected president in 1988.

For the first time ever, the RCA just elected an African American to be vice president.  James Seawood will be vice-president by tomorrow night and (barring an unforseen events) will be elected president a year from now.
