Day 1: A few problems…
Author: teejtc / Category: RagbraiSo far so good, but I’ve had a few problems today - ironically, none because of the hills (I think we’ve done more today already than we did all year last year!)Â
Coffee Wait: about 30 minutes. Is any coffee really worth waiting 30 minutes for? I suppose not, but I promised that I was going to go SLOWER this year than last year. Not because I rode so quickly last year, but because there’s really no point at getting to the end town quickly unless you’re a drunkard… which (for the record) I am not.Â
What problems? Well, within the first 20 miles, I had a flat. Really a bummer since it was the same tire I had a flat on a week ago.  Turns out, the fix-it tent I found first was going to make me wait 1 1/2 hours to fix it … the second one had a 3 minute wait and was MUCH more friendly — I thought they were great and will post their name later to prove it! Turns out I had a little needle-like-metal-splinter-thing in my tire (so I DID fix it correctly last week, just didn’t find the splinter).Â
Second big problem? about 30 miles in I was shifting on the way up a hill and my chain came of and siezed up. UGH! Fortunately, a little prying and it all worked out!Â
I’m in Shelby.. drat! It’s not even noon and that’s only a dozen miles or so from the end town - I guess I’ll have to sit around for a while…. maybe with some pie and ice cream…. again
I just ran into Jon - He’s doing well. Saw Kevin 10 miles or so ago, he’s doing well too. The rest? No clue. Probably already sleeping under the semi in Harlan!
Until then.
Grace and Peace,
 `tim
