Red Oak

Well, I made it through day 1. It was an amazingly hilly day (although tomorrow is worse) but the lion’s share of it was incredibly beautiful.

I didn’t sleep well last night – partly because the concert went late and was REALLY loud, partly because it was absolutely frigid! The morning warmed up nicely, though, and it didn’t take long before Iowa showed it’s truly incredible ability to pull out wonderful weather. (As a side note — Council Bluffs biffed it on guessing how many port-a-potties to get… they WAY undershot their guess and I had the unfortunate experience of seeing fuller port-a-potties than I ever thought possible…ick.. I know… It was even worse in real life.)

So far, I’ve managed to stick with my few little goals:

  • I wanted to eat at Taco John’s — CHECK!
  • I wanted to eat at Pizza Ranch — CHECK!
  • I didn’t want to walk up any hills – (so far) CHECK!
  • I had a goal to check out the Peanut Butter Jam — one of my favorite stands — and actually got to eat there this noon. I may well be their biggest fan, indeed, they actually recognized me when I showed up.
  • Grace and peace,
    `tim
