Day 2 was a pretty laid back day at Synod. It’s been hot… really hot! Day 2′s business was, for the most part, pretty straightforward – there was the General Secretary’s Report – he did a nice job. Specifically, I’d suggest downloading it and looking at the appendix (which wasn’t part of the report, but is very interesting).
The President also delivered his report.
For many, I think the Ed Stetzer presentation in the evening was well-liked. I found it to be a bit too elementary for Elders and Ministers. I’d love EVERY person in the RCA to pay attention to it – he did a wonderful job of explaining “where we are,” but I wish he would have taken it further and said: here’s how you get that though to the rest of the people in the church, and here are some suggestions on how to change it.
Thus far, nothing controversial has really been done, although there are a number of topics simmering under the surface waiting to break through. I’m uncertain whether pushing the controversy later will be good (because it will give people experience “playing nicely” with one another before we get there) or whether it will be problematic (because people will be ready to explode when we get there.)
Grace and peace,
